Seven Teams, Three Schools, One Shared Goal – The EduRobotics Cup Is Underway in Orosháza

With equipment provided by the Németh Imre Foundation, seven teams are taking part in the local round of the EduRobotics Cup at the Gyula Vocational Training Centre's Kossuth Lajos Technical School. Students from Eötvös József Primary School and Kossuth Lajos Technical School are putting their skills to the test with the support of two coaches and one head coach.

On 24 September, the two-day EduRobotics Cup robotics competition began in Orosháza. Kossuth Lajos Technical School is hosting the event, while the robotics equipment required for the competition is provided by the Németh Imre Foundation (NIA).

A total of seven teams are participating: two teams from Eötvös József Primary School and five from Kossuth Lajos Technical School. The young competitors are supported by two coaches and one head coach as they work on the challenges throughout the competition.

Former Kossuth students return to help

It is particularly rewarding that both assistant coaches are former students of Kossuth Lajos Technical School and are now studying at the University of Szeged.

Márk Lazanyecz is a final-year Computer Science student who has already returned to his former school as a teacher, while Ádám Szarvas is a second-year Computer Engineering student.

Both are involved as volunteer helpers of the Németh Imre Foundation. Having once been students at Kossuth themselves, they now use their knowledge and university experience to support younger competitors in their preparation and during the competition.

Melinda Mészáros, President of the Németh Imre Foundation, explained that it is especially important for the Foundation that the robotics equipment acquired over the past years should not only support everyday education, but also provide students with opportunities to compete, develop their skills and gain valuable experience.

"We are delighted that NIA's equipment can once again support the children's development and participation in competitions. It is particularly meaningful to see our former students return to the school as university students and teachers, now volunteering for the Foundation. What we started years ago has developed into a real continuity: the knowledge they gained is now being passed on to the next generation," said Melinda Mészáros.

Students from two Orosháza schools compete together

Diána Palotás–Rózsa, Director of Kossuth Lajos Technical School, highlighted how pleased the institution is to host the local EduRobotics Cup competition and to provide an opportunity for students from two Orosháza schools to demonstrate their robotics skills together.

The youngest competitors came from Eötvös József Primary School.

Marianna Korcsok, Director of Eötvös József Primary School, said that the sixth- and seventh-grade students were performing the tasks very successfully. The school's robotics club operates with equipment provided by NIA, and a competition like this clearly demonstrates the value of the knowledge and skills the students gain there.

The students are not only building and programming robots; they are also learning to think together, solve problems, plan and work as a team.

The best feedback, however, came from the children themselves. The primary school competitors said that the first day of the competition had been one of the best days of their lives.

The older students from Kossuth Technical School, meanwhile, are once again demonstrating the confidence, experience and knowledge they have developed over the years. For them, robotics and competitions are already part of a longer professional learning journey, giving them another opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have acquired.

From equipment to knowledge, from knowledge to community

The EduRobotics Cup competition in Orosháza is about much more than robots and programming. Primary school pupils, technical school students, former Kossuth students, university students and teachers are all working together.

For the Németh Imre Foundation, this is perhaps one of the most important achievements of all: equipment becomes knowledge, and knowledge creates a community in which former students return as mentors to support the next generation.
